South Goa Sightseeing — Churches & Old Goa

Discover the slower, heritage-rich side of Goa with a full-day private South Goa sightseeing tour. This route is designed for guests who want more than the usual beach-hopping day, combining Old Goa’s famous churches, Portuguese-era streets, temple stops and quieter southern beaches in one comfortable private car experience.

Your day starts with hotel pickup at around 9:00 AM. The first major stop is Old Goa, also known as Velha Goa, the former Portuguese capital. Here you visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Goa’s most important churches, known for housing the relics of St Francis Xavier. A short walk away is Se Cathedral, one of the largest churches in Asia and a major landmark of Old Goa. Many South Goa and Old Goa tours include these churches as core heritage stops.  

From Old Goa, continue towards Panaji for a quick drive-through or short stop around Fontainhas, Goa’s Latin Quarter, known for colourful Portuguese-style houses, narrow lanes and old-world charm. Depending on timing, the route can also include Mahalaxmi Temple or another temple stop for a wider view of Goa’s cultural mix.

Lunch can be taken in Margao, Loutolim or at a South Goa restaurant suggested by your driver. The afternoon is kept slower, with time for the southern beach belt. Depending on traffic and your preference, you can visit Colva, Benaulim or Palolem. If time allows, a short stop at Cabo de Rama Fort can be added for cliff and sea views.

You can spend longer at churches, skip temple stops, choose a beach-focused afternoon, add a café break or make the route easier for children and older guests.
